NEWTON FALLS -- Girls from the Mahoning Valley interested in baton twirling and dance are invited to an open registration for a traveling team known as The Mohawks.
Registration dates are Sept. 10 and 17 at Newton Falls Middle School and Sept. 12 and 19 at Garfield Elementary School in Garrettsville. Both will be from 6 to 7 p.m.
The team recently placed second at the Twirling Unlimited contest in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Children's Internationalto hold area fall social
BOARDMAN -- Children's International Summer Villages will have a fall social from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Charles School on U.S. Route 224.
The event will feature a pot luck dinner with an international flavor and recognition of the international organization's 50th anniversary and its presence in the Mahoning Valley for almost 40 years.
CISV is an intercultural educational organization, which will conduct a village here next summer, featuring a visit to Youngstown State University by 48 11-year-old boys and girls and their adult leaders from foreign countries.
Benefit softball game
AUSTINTOWN -- The Harley Hawgs are scheduled to face the Austintown Fraternal Order of Police in the sixth annual Swine Classic Benefit Softball Game at noon Sunday at Cullinan Field No. 3.
A home run derby is also set for 9:30 a.m. that day. There's a $5 entry fee with proceeds to benefit the Austintown Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
