YOUNGSTOWN Last of 4 defendants sentenced in killing

Two other men are in prison and one was cleared.

YOUNGSTOWN -- The last of four men charged with killing a 16-year-old city boy in 1999 had his day in court Tuesday.
William L. Robinson III, 27, of West Earle Avenue, was sentenced to seven years in prison by Judge Jack Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. He was given credit for 703 days he's served in the county jail awaiting trial.
"This finally puts the case to rest," said Terry Grenga, assistant prosecutor.
Robinson was indicted by a county grand jury in September 1999 on charges of aggravated murder and kidnapping.
Killing: The victim, John Allen, was tied up and beaten at a Market Street apartment in September 1999. Allen was then placed in the trunk of a car and driven to a wooded area near Lincoln Park on the city's East Side, where he was shot six times in the head.
Robinson struck a deal with prosecutors, agreeing to testify against the other suspects in exchange for his charges being reduced to involuntary manslaughter, to which he pleaded guilty in June 2000.
Other defendants: Judge Durkin delayed his sentencing until after the other defendants' cases were finished.
Kevin Green, 28, of Robinwood Place, was convicted by a jury in February of kidnapping and complicity to aggravated murder and is serving a life sentence. Authorities say he was most likely the triggerman.
Prosecutors also agreed to reduced charges for Jeron Hunter, 23, of Overland Avenue, who pleaded guilty in May to felonious assault and kidnapping. He is also serving a seven-year sentence, which was recommended in his plea agreement.
The fourth suspect, Lamar Logan, 37, of Ayers Street, was cleared of aggravated assault after a one-day trial Aug. 27 in common pleas court. Judge Durkin ruled there was not enough evidence to convict him and dismissed the charges.
