Home found saturated with sewage

AUSTINTOWN -- Police found the first floor of a home at 139 N. Roanoke Ave. saturated with liquid sewage late Monday night.
Fence posts, garbage and clothes had been placed on the ground of the home so the owner could walk through the sewage. Police reports say that, "the foul odor was overwhelming."
The owner apparently had abandoned the home. Police said the owner may have become sick as a result of the living conditions and moved to a hotel.
A neighbor called police to say the home had been abandoned.
Several appliances also had been left on, including the television, a window fan, and the refrigerator. Electrical cords went through the sewage to the appliances.
A dog also was found chained to a fence in the back yard. The Mahoning County Dog Warden is attempting to contact the home owner about caring for the animal.
On the second floor of the home, police found two containers of suspected dried marijuana. In addition, they found two lights that may have been used to grow the marijuana.
The Mahoning County District Board of Health is thinking about condemning the home, township officials said.
