Winston Cup driver Steve Park was released from the hospital Monday, two days he was injured in an accident at Darlington Raceway. Park suffered a concussion and bruised his collarbone in the accident during the South Carolina 200 on Saturday. He missed Sunday's Southern 500, with driver Kenny Wallace subbing for him. The 34-year-old Park drives a Chevrolet for DEI, the company founded by the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was injured in an accident during a caution period on lap 20. Park's car was running at about 45 mph, behind the pace car on the backstretch, when it veered suddenly to the left just after exiting Turn 2. Park's car cut directly in front of Larry Foyt, who was accelerating to move up to the head of the line of lapped cars on the inside lane for the restart. Foyt's car hit Park's just behind the driver's side door, sending it spinning into the inside wall. DEI officials said Monday no decision has been made regarding Parks' participation in this weekend's race.
Pay raise
University of Washington football coach Rick Neuheisel has been given a 35 percent pay raise, bringing his annual salary and other compensation to $1.2 million. Athletic director Barbara Hedges announced the increase Monday. The 40-year-old Neuheisel could make up to $1.4 million with incentives for bowl appearances and a high graduation rate of players.
