Husband charged
GIRARD, Pa. (AP) -- Pennsylvania State Police have recovered the body of an Erie County woman, missing for a week, from a shallow grave near a fishing hole and have charged her estranged husband in her death.
Scott Thomas Martin, 45, of Girard, about 10 miles southwest of Erie, was being held in the Erie County Prison without bail. Police said he admitted bludgeoning 43-year-old Ann Louise Martin to death and then dumping her body.
Police said Martin told them he and his wife got into an argument at his mobile home and beat her on the head with an aluminum baseball bat. Martin then wrapped her body and buried it, police said.
Neighbors told police they heard pounding inside the trailer home on Monday and then saw Martin leave in a white van. When they went inside, neighbors said they saw puddles of blood.
He is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, abuse of a corpse and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
