Series of events held in celebration of Soviks' 50th wedding anniversary



YOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sovik, 2260 McCollum Road, celebrated the 50th anniversary of their July 31, 1941, wedding by renewing their marriage vows and revisiting their honeymoon destination.
They renewed their vows July 16 during a Divine Liturgy at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, where they were united in marriage and are members.
The Soviks also renewed their vows during a trip to St. Anne de Beupre Shrine in Quebec, which was also their honeymoon destination.
A dinner party and reception arranged by their family took place July 21 at the Prima Vista Restaurant in Cincinnati.
Their children are Dr. Mary Benedetti of Cincinnati and Dr. Thomas Sovik of Denton, Texas. There are two granddaughters in the family.
Mrs. Sovik, the former Kathryn Giba, retired in 1989 from Austintown Fitch High School, where she taught English and reading. She also was a member of the reading education faculty at Youngstown State University from 1976 to 1989.
Mr. Sovik served with the First Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II and retired in 1985 from Westinghouse Corp. in Sharon, Pa.
