HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER Kimple spearheads Columbiana's win



Behind Berry Kimple's two goals, Columbiana posted a 3-1 win over Chaney.
COLUMBIANA -- Berry Kimple scored two goals, one on a penalty kick, to lead the Columbiana High boys soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Chaney Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Schmidt scored the other goal for the Clippers, while Alex Heintzelman and Eric Barnesser each added an assist.
Chaney's lone goal was scored by Sabrina Crincic, with an assist from Adam Garcia.
Columbiana's goalie Matt Hazel made six saves, while Dave Copanic had 19 saves for Chaney (1-2-1).
Fitch 6, Marlington 2: MARLINGTON -- Chris Frazzini had two goals while Alex Castillo, Gus Martinez, Sam Camens and Mike Panamarczuk added one apiece for the Falcons (3-0). Camens had two assists while Anthony Colaluca and Justin Finlen had one assist apiece.
Jason French and Stephen Papania had the goals for Marlington (1-2).
Fitch goalie Brett Gleydura had nine saves, while Marlington goalie Brady Bowser had six saves for the Dukes.
Ursuline 2, Mansfield 2: STRUTHERS -- P.J. Graves and Brian Rable each scored a goal for the Irish (2-0-1). Rable's came with 9 minutes remaining in the game.
Jeff Serenko had an assist on the Graves goal in the first half.
Mansfield Christian (2-0-1), Division II state runnerup last year, got its goals from Jesse Rider in the first half and from James Turner with 14 minutes left in the second half.
Ursuline goalkeeper Dan Frank had 13 saves, while Luke Marietta of Mansfield Christian had 10.
Girls: BOARDMAN -- Senior Leah Albani had two goals while sophomore Sarah Mangiarelli had the other, as Howland defeated Boardman 3-0 in girls soccer Saturday.
Stephanie Cornicelli had an assist on Albani's second goal for the Tigers (3-0). Junior Darcy Quinlan had four saves as Howland's goalie.
Sophomore goalie Lauren Callahan had 10 saves for Boardman (2-1).
Fitch 6, Newton Falls 1: Fitch had two goals by Danielle Storey, and one goal each by Sara Baker, Kelly Croysdale, Lindsy Hitesman and Jessica Sprowl.
The Falcons (1-2) had one assist each from Storey and Croysdale.
Newton Falls' goal was by Lea Lange.
Racheal Brazin had 16 saves for Newton Falls. (0-3) Alison Chasao and Sara Baker had four saves each for Fitch.
Niles 5, Girard 1: GIRARD -- Liz Mientkiewicz and Jenna Golias two goals each for Niles (2-1), while Ashley King had one goal. Goalie Amanda Orwig had six saves.
For Girard (2-1), Jenny Sopkovich had the goal on an assist by April Courtney. Goalie Angela DiPiero had 33 saves.
Mooney 6, Wilmington 2: Katie Duracky scored three goals for Cardinal Mooney (3-0), while Amy Edwards, Kacie Kubic and Jamie Matteo all added one goal. Goalie Adrianne Detesco had three saves.
For Wilmington (0-1), Kristen Vintrin scored both goals, while goalie Kylie Mackaness had six saves.
Lakeview 1, JFK 1: WARREN -- Lakeview tied the game at 1-1 on Heidi Neighberger's goal with 20 minutes left on an assist by Amber Hurton.
JFK (2-0-1) had taken a 1-0 lead on Sarah McNeil's corner kick with 32 minutes remaining, on assist by Katie Roberts.
JFK goalie Michelle Rossio had 13 saves, while Lakeview (0-1-1) goalie Megan Gilroy had 14 saves.
Hubbard 0, Toledo Notre Dame 0: HUBBARD -- Sophomore goalie Lynle Cornell had seven saves for Division II Hubbard (1-1-1), while Sarah Bennett also had seven saves for Div. I Toledo Notre Dame (2-0-1).
