SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES
Arms Family Museum: Next Sunday is Founders' Day open house, and volunteers are requested for a variety of activities, including set-up, craft demonstrations, children's games and crafts, and cleanup.Marian Living Center: Volunteers needed to help set up for an art show and reception at the center Sept. 14. The art show and reception is from noon to 5 p.m. Volunteers also needed to prepare for a health fair at the center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26-27.Ronald McDonald House: People needed to assist with the maintenance of the yard and house interior. Some painting and wall washing required.

Volunteer help also is needed for these agencies:
Angels for Animals (Green Valley Drive): People needed to care for animals. Responsibilities include cleaning kennels, grooming animals, sweeping, filing papers and doing laundry. A regular two- to three-hour weekly shift required and scheduled according to volunteer availability.Goodwill Industries: Book sorter needed. Also requesting instructors for health, nature and academic programs.Junior Achievement of the Mahoning Valley: Clerical assistant needed in the Girard office. The schedule is flexible from Monday through Friday to answer the telephone, file, update and enter data. Classroom volunteers also needed to teach basic economic principles in area classrooms to pupils in grades three through 12. These volunteers must commit to five to eight 45- to 60-minute sessions per year. Training and materials provided. Flexible schedule.Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens: People needed to assist those with special needs at monthly dances and bingo.Mahoning County Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA): Volunteers represent the best interest of abused and neglected children in juvenile court proceedings. A one-year commitment is required. Training sessions are provided.Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic: A greeter is needed for four hours in the mornings or evenings any weekday to prepare paperwork for intake and admission. This person must be pleasant, assertive and able to deal with a variety of personalities.Paisley House: People will assist in weekday or Saturday afternoon or evening activities, which may include bingo, cards, crafts, board games and light exercise. A volunteer also may be asked to play the organ or piano on Sunday afternoons for hymn sing-alongs.Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley: Meal servers needed for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The mission will accept groups of individuals, who must be available from 6:30 to 8 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and/or 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.Volunteer Service to Seniors: Volunteers needed for telephone reassurance, home visits and transportation for the elderly and disabled. Some seniors also have requested minor home repairs and lawn care service.
