ACADEMY GRADS
Air Force, Army
Eva Rae Sanchez graduated first in her legal studies major from the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., and was commissioned a second lieutenant. While at the academy, she was named Outstanding Cadet in legal studies, was on the Dean's List every semester, was a member of the fencing team during her first two years and completed the free-fall jump program to earn the Air Force Jump Badge.
Sanchez, a 1997 graduate of Boardman High School, is stationed at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, as a contracting officer. She is a daughter of Reinaldo Sanchez and Wildemina Ocasio Sanchez, 523 Oak Ave., Boardman.
Benjamin Alan Biroschak graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., with a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering and was commissioned a second lieutenant.
Biroschak, who graduated in 1997 from Springfield Local High School, will attend Officer Basic Course at Fort Rucker, Ala.
He is a son of Ronald and Mary Jo Biroschak, New Springfield.
VETERANS
District VFW
District 8 of the VFW will meet at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at VFW Post 3703, 500 Tallmadge Ave., Kent. District 8 consists of Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage and Summit counties.

PROMOTIONS
Unit commander
Atty. John E. Luchansky, a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve, Lambertville, Mich., was promoted to Unit Commander in the Judge Advocate General's office. He is a son of Anita and the late John Luchansky of Boardman. He graduated from Youngstown Cardinal Mooney High School, Youngstown State University and Toledo University School of Law. Luchansky served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam.
