TAC Williams has three touchdowns in win
Hubbard and Girard picked up victories, as well.
GARRETTSVILLE -- Jaris Williams ran 22 times for 216 yards and touchdowns of 1, 7 and 76 yards as Liberty beat Garrettsville Garfield 27-7 Friday.
The three Williams touchdowns allowed the Leopards to take a 20-0 lead entering the final quarter.
Joe Banner also ran 39 yards for a Liberty tally and he finished with 47 yards on four runs.
Hubbard 21, Cleveland East 6: HUBBARD -- Anthony Smith's fine running combined with a key interception to improve the Eagles to 2-0. Cleveland East dropped to 0-2.
Smith led the ground game with 18 rushes for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Hubbard's defense performed admirably, holding Cleveland East rushers to only 68 yards for the entire game. Smith and Antonio Owens each intercepted a pass, and Matt Clark and Paul Toth each recovered a fumble.
Hickory 27, Brookfield 20: A.J. Stahl ran for his third touchdown with 1:17 left in the game to give Hickory the victory in a back-and-forth game.
Stahl finished with 15 rushes for 88 yards, and Hickory totaled 219 yards on the ground. Brookfield countered with 259 yards on the ground, but couldn't hold off the Hornets, who improved to 1-0. The Warriors fell to 0-2.
Hickory's Ross Trimmer ran back a kickoff for an 82-yard touchdown, and the feat was nearly matched by Brookfield's Lou Scudere, who was tackled at the 10-yard line.
Girard 36, Conneaut 7: GIRARD -- Dustin Helle, a 5-7, 128-pound junior, caught touchdown passes of 64 and 44 yards from quarterback Randy Mason.
He also returned a kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown, but it was nullified by a clip.
Helle actually caught four passes for 142 yards. Mason hit on 9-of-19 passes for 234 yards and four TDs.
