Labor Day at the fair will be especially busy for horse race fans. A record 81 horses have entered, forcing fair board officials to change the starting time from 12:30 p.m. to noon. Ordinarily, nine or 10 races are run in the parimutuel betting event, said George Berlin, director of harness racing, but with so many horses entered, 15 races will be run. "It's going to be interesting, finishing the races in time to set up chairs on the track for the Brooks & amp; Dunn concert at 8 p.m.," he said. Ten parimutuel betting races will be run this afternoon starting at 12:30; nine races were run Friday evening.
Auditor presents award
State Auditor Jim Petro has presented the fair board members with a plaque honoring their work at the fair. Petro is running against Ohio Treasurer Joseph Deters for the Republican nomination to serve as state attorney general. Deters attended Thursday morning's ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the fair; Petro did not. Admission to the grandstand for the races is free.
