No playoffs this year for the Scrappers
NILES -- For the first time in their three-year history, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers won't be playing in the postseason.
Instead, they'll conclude the 2001 New York-Penn League schedule with six straight games at Cafaro Field beginning with a doubleheader against the Oneonta Tigers today.
The Scrappers (24-45) had their game Friday night on the road against the Auburn Doubledays rained out. It will not be made up, said an official in the Doubledays team office.
After today's doubleheader that begins at 6:05 p.m., the Scrappers finish the series against Oneonta with a game Sunday at 2:05 p.m. A three-game set against the New Jersey Cardinals starts Monday.
