MAC Salem overcomes early deficit to get first win



Poland crushed Jefferson, 56-0.
LISBON -- Beaver Local jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on a Derek Smith touchdown pass to Shawn Crane and a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown from Jake Robinson.
But Salem came back with the next five scores, including a 42-yard touchdown pass from Landen Heath to Geoff Cody that led the Quakers to a 24-20 victory.
It also marked the first win for Salem coach Doug Phillips.
Ken Buckley led Salem with 26 rushes for 142 yards and a touchdown. Jake Robinson led Beaver Local with 11 carries for 82 yards. Salem and Beaver Local both stand at 1-1.
Howland 42, Cleveland John Marshall 0: HOWLAND -- Uunbeaten Howland built a 28-0 lead by halftime. Greg Parrish caught the Tigers' only pass of the game, a 10-yard touchdown strike from Rick Clark, and John Airhardt made a place kick for the go-ahead 7-0 points.
Senior tailback Marc Rek rushed for 136 yards on nine carries, which included touchdown runs of 2 and 24 yards.
The Tigers dominated throughout as they controlled the outcome with 358 yards rushing in 35 attempts while holding John Marshall to less than 100 yards rushing and passing.
Poland 56, Jefferson 0: JEFFERSON -- Lou DaVanzo rushed for 129 yards and four touchdowns, leading the Bulldogs to their second straight victory.
Jim Mitolo added 119 yards on 17 carries and scored twice. One of his touchdowns was a 6-yard reception from Sean Clayton, who was 11-of-17 for 132 yards, all in the first half when Poland opened a 35-0 lead.
