Christian car cruise
WARREN -- Glenn Christian Church will have its sixth annual ox roast and car show from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
There will be a "Nite Before" cruise from 6 to 9 p.m. today with a bonfire and music.
The event is not a fund raiser for the church or charity, according to Darlene K. Stuart, a spokesman for the cruise. Instead, it is designed as a free day of fun and fellowship for the community. Many of those on the church grounds at 5540 Parkman Road N.W., attend its service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Some 600 cars from 11 states are registered. The church estimates there will be 8,000 to 10,000 spectators.
Pilgrimage set
NORTH JACKSON -- The Youngstown region of the Slovak Catholic Federation will have its eight annual pilgrimage in honor of Our Sorrowful Mother, the patroness of Slovaks, Sept. 16 at Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine. All devotions will be in Slovak, starting at 3 p.m. A Slovak Mass is at 4 p.m. Confessions will be in English and Slovak.
A dinner will be served after the Mass. A candlelight procession and the Rosary will end the day. Tickets for the dinner are $10 and may be obtained from federation members, Slovak parishes, or by calling (330) 782-9126.
Forgiveness andrepentance program
YOUNGSTOWN -- An interfaith program on forgiveness and repentance will be at 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at Ohev Tzedek-Shaarei Torah Congregation. There will be a panel discussion by Rabbi Simeon Kolko of Ohev Tzedek, the Rev. George J. Balasko, pastor of St. Ann Catholic Church in East Liverpool, who has been active in Jewish-Christian dialogues, and Elsie Dursi, the executive director of the Mahoning Valley Association Churches. Evangelist to speak
NILES -- Norman Sharbaugh of Clermont, Ind., will be the evangelist when Evansville Baptist Church has evangelist meetings. He's a former Catholic educator and basketball coach. Services are at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 9, and at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 to 14. Call (330) 652-6793.
Healing Mass
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Casimir Church will have a healing Mass at 11 a.m. Sept. 12. There will be anointing of the sick, elderly and the troubled. A light lunch will follow the Mass. Call (330) 743-3951.
Interfaith prayer
GIRARD -- The eighth annual World Day of Prayer will be observed locally starting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at Unity Church Center. Its pastor, the Rev. Richard A. Schumacher, will conduct a 30-minute service. Individuals will then begin one-hour shifts of silent prayer in the sanctuary, while people pray aloud in the church library. The prayer vigil will end at 8 p.m. Sept. 13 with a service for answered prayers. The event is organized by the Unity School of Christianity near Kansas City, Mo. Call (330) 539-0122.
Pet blessings
COLUMBIANA -- St. Jude Catholic Church will be the site of a blessing of pets and pet parade from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 30. The event commemorates the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals. Animals should be on leashes or cages. No dangerous species will be permitted.
'Loving God' program
YOUNGSTOWN -- "Loving God and Loving Neighbor" is the title of a free program that will offered adults and teens from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 16, Oct. 21 and Nov. 11 at St. Columba Cathedral. The program will offer presentations followed by discussions on individuals who have made a contribution to humanity, ways of showing kindness or serving others, and ways of expressing gratitude. Rally day
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Mark's Lutheran Church will have a rally day Sept. 9. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, Sunday school and teacher recognition, and a balloon launch. The 10:45 a.m. service will include a welcome of new members. A picnic will follow.
Moody Bible Institute

WARREN -- Religious award classes for Boy Scouts begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament School library. Scouts working on the Ad Altare Dei medal must be 12, and those working on the Pope Pius award must be 14, as of Jan. 1, 2001. Scouts should bring a notebook, pencil and Bible.
Wedding anniversaries
