Toddler is hurt when
BROOKFIELD -- An 18-month-old Youngstown boy was injured Monday night when a car backed into him.
Dennis Hubbert of Tacoma Avenue was in satisfactory condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Police Chief Daniel Faustino said the boy's aunt, Kerry Sprankle, 24, of 8123 Addison Road, was backing out of the driveway at 8060 Addison Road shortly before 9 p.m. when the boy went under the car. A friend of Sprankle's screamed and she stopped. Police are investigating.
Teens in custody
HUBBARD -- Two 15-year-old boys are in custody for what police say is a car theft.
Township police Detective Mike Begeot said a 1986 Buick containing the two Youngstown boys was stopped near Truck World about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The car was reported stolen from the truck plaza parking lot.
The boys are in the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center pending charges.
League sponsors forum
GIRARD -- The Trumbull County League of Women Voters and the Girard Education Association are sponsoring a forum for Girard Board of Education candidates at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The event will be in the high school auditorium.
Library's walkway done
NEWTON FALLS -- The new sidewalk and ramp at Newton Falls Public Library are completed, and the front entrance has been reopened.
Terreri Construction of North Jackson did the work. A tree, donated by the Newton Falls Class of 1950 in memory of teacher Leah Adams, has been planted near the new walkway.
Meanwhile, a holiday tree display, sponsored by Friends of the Library, will be featured in November and December in the Palmer Meeting Room.
The display includes a patriotic tree, a Victorian tree and an old-fashion country gingerbread tree.
Each tree has been decorated by local businesses, individuals and organizations.
Purchase bids on the trees will be accepted until 6 p.m. Dec. 10. Proceeds go to the Children's Learning Center.
Retirement seminar
HOWLAND -- Retirement living alternatives will be discussed at a public seminar at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Avalon Inn, 9519 E. Market St.
Linda Todd of Todd & amp; Associates will discuss how one should choose a retirement community and the types of health care available in such a community.

Reward offered in hoax
LISBON -- Lisbon police, the FBI and U.S. Postal Service inspectors based in Cleveland continue to investigate an anthrax hoax Wednesday at Lisbon David Anderson High School and are offering a $1,000 reward for information.
Lisbon Police Chief John "Buck" Higgins said someone mailed a threatening letter from the Lisbon Post Office to the school.
The letter, opened by the principal, said it contained anthrax. The Ohio Department of Health determined there was no anthrax.
Such a hoax is a violation of state and federal law.
Higgins said the reward will be given to the first person with credible information leading to the arrest and conviction of the sender.

Party at hall of fame
SHARON, Pa.-- The Vocal Group Hall of Fame & amp; Museum will have a Halloween party for families from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Area children are invited to trick-or-treat in the museum at a cost of $3 each. Adults will be admitted free and can tour the museum during the festivities.
Treats will be given to children 12 and under and a costume contest will be at 7 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Reyers, McDonald's, Pizza Joe's, Quaker Steak & amp; Lube and WPIC radio.
Work on I-680
YOUNGSTOWN -- One lane will be closed in each direction on Interstate 680 between Market Street and South Avenue through Wednesday for repaving.
To avoid the morning rush hour, the Ohio Department of Transportation has scheduled the work to start at 9 a.m. and end before the evening rush hour.
