WARREN -- Police arrested several juveniles on delinquency charges of unruliness after finding marijuana and condoms in a backyard clubhouse.
Police said they went to 1746 Larchmont Ave. around 6:45 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor complained that the teen-agers were throwing pumpkins.
When police arrived they found marijuana and condoms in the clubhouse. The teens are to appear in juvenile court this week.
New contract
WARREN -- Bus drivers and custodians in the city school district have a new contract.
Members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 943 voted over the weekend to approve the pact, which includes raises of 4 percent the first year and 3 percent the second and third years.
The union represents 109 people.
Life Skills grant
WARREN -- Life Skills Center is receiving a $7,000 grant from the Ohio SchoolNet Commission to help it upgrade its technology resources and services.
The money may be used to buy computer equipment, instructional software or for technology-related professional development.
Life Skills was one of 31 community schools in the state to receive the funding and the only local one.
Girard trick-or-treat
GIRARD -- The police department has announced that it will have extra patrols on duty on Halloween night. Wednesday's trick-or-treat rounds in the city are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Police will focus on monitoring traffic.
Car crash kills oneand injures three
PARKMAN -- An 18-year-old Garrettsville man was killed and his three passengers were injured when his car crashed on Old State Road.
The Geauga County post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Michael B. Gibson was driving his 1997 Honda around 3:20 p.m. Saturday when he attempted to stop for an Amish buggy and slid off the road, striking a guardrail and turning over.
Gibson died shortly after the crash. David Warner, 18, of Garrettsville, and Katrina Warner, 16, of Middlefield, were treated for injuries, and Charles O'Grady, 17, of Garrettsville, remained in serious condition today in a Cleveland hospital.
School needs aides
LORDSTOWN -- The school board is accepting applications for two part-time educational aides at Gordon D. James Career Center.
The aides will work in the school readiness and culinary arts programs up to 191/2 hours a week and earn $8 per hour with no benefits.
Applicants should send a letter and resume to Lordstown Local School District, superintendent's office, Attn: Pat Hogan, secretary, 1824 Salt Springs Road, Warren 44481. Deadline is noon Nov. 16.
Rides to the polls
BROOKFIELD -- The township senior van will be available to take residents to the polls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 6. Residents should call Joseph Misorich at (330) 448-1805 by Nov. 5 to schedule a ride.
Women reportman in their homes
NILES -- Two women reported a man getting into their homes over the weekend.
A Maple Avenue woman told police she heard a noise in her basement Friday night and later found a man, dressed in black clothes and a white mask, in her home.
She fled and called police from a neighbor's home.
Police discovered that the phone lines to the home had been cut and that entry was gained through a basement window.
An Ann Street woman told police she heard a noise at a side door of her home early Saturday.
Thinking it was a neighbor, she opened the door and a man forced his way in, threatening her with a stick.
She grabbed the stick and screamed and the man fled.
Business robbed
NILES -- A gunman got away with cash from a Youngstown-Warren Road business.
An employee from Pay Day Cash Advance told police that a man came into the business about 7 p.m. Friday, brandishing a handgun and demanding all of the money in the store. The employee handed over money and the man ran from the store.
