TCL Crestview wins league title with 55-0 victory
East Palestine likely clinched a playoff berth with a win over Southern.
SEBRING -- Josh Louk, Keith Baker and Joe Leskosky all scored twice as the Crestview High football team claimed the Tri-County League championship outright with a 55-0 victory over Sebring.
Crestview (9-1, 7-0 TCL) had 279 of its 282 total yards on the ground with Louk, a senior halfback, gaining 112 yards on eight carries. Starting quarterback Seth Antram, a senior, was replaced by substitute Troy Duwe, a junior who threw Crestview's only pass, a 3-yard touchdown pass to Baker. Duwe entered halfway through the second quarter.
Leskosky, a senior, tallied on an interception return and a blocked punt from his outside linebacker position.
Eric Gustafson, a sophomore halfback, and David Myers, a freshman, also scored for the winners.
Scott Raschilla made seven extra-point kicks.
Sebring was held to 6 yards. The Trojans returned the second-half kickoff to Crestview's 40 and then made its deepest penetration to the 35.
East Palestine 43, Southern 12: SALINEVILLE -- Junior fullback J.D. Powers, senior Robbie Clark and junior quarterback Smitty Kendrew scored two touchdowns apiece as the Bulldogs rolled up all 513 of their yards on the ground.
Powers had 333 yards on 31 carries, while Kendrew added 127 yards on 13 rushes for East Palestine (8-2, 6-1), which was seventh in the computer ratings prior to the game.
Clark, who occupies the fullback position in goal-line situations, scored from 2 and 4 yards out.
Joe Witman's fumble recovery led to Powers' 5-yard touchdown run prior to halftime.
Matt Puckett scored both TDs for Southern.
Columbiana 43, United 6: COLUMBIANA -- J.P. Jenkins and Derek Garrod both scored three times, most of which were on long runs from scrimmage, as the Clippers ended 7-3, 4-2.
Of Columbiana's 489 yards, Jenkins, a senior fullback, gained 267 on 11 carries. As a team, the Clippers had 35 rushing attempts and didn't try a pass. Garrod, a senior quarterback/running back, rushed 13 times for 189 yards.
Fullback John Hatala and split back Jerry Remish, both juniors, each ran a two-point conversion.
United's lone score was when Nick Schneider caught a 14-yard pass from Mitch Phillis. The Eagles (6-4) totaled 171 yards.
Leetonia 27, Lisbon 7: LEETONIA -- Results of this game were not reported.
