Lowellville carries football nearly 500 yards in blowout



BERLIN CENTER -- Lowellville kept its slim hopes alive for a Division VI state playoff berth as it scored points in every quarter Friday for a 53-7 victory over Western Reserve.
Mike Palumbo of the Rockets (7-3, 5-2 Inter-County League) gained 315 yards on 19 carries, which included touchdown runs of 18, 48 and 69 yards.
Teammate Andy Peterson picked up 81 yards on 19 attempts and scored on runs of 8, 33 and 66 yards.
The Rockets rushed 39 times for 480 yards and completed 1-of-6 passes for 7 yards.
John McDougal of Western Reserve (1-9) gained 61 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Jake Zatchok completed 5-of-21 passes for 136 yards, which included a touchdown throw of 38 yards to Aaron Mayne.
Mineral Ridge 15, Mathews 8: VIENNA -- Steve Osborn ran 19 times for 108 yards and touchdowns of 3 and 2 yards for the Rams (3-7, 3-4 ICL).
Marc Burcham ran for a 7-yard touchdown to give the Mustangs (2-8, 1-6) an 8-0 lead at the break.
Osborn rushed for 90 of his yards and both scores in the second half.
Adam Hughes ran 12 times for 68 yards to lead the Mustangs.
