Hinton sets record in West Branch win



Marlington held on to beat Canfield.
BELOIT -- Tom Hinton set the single-season rushing record at West Branch High School as the Warriors blanked Salem 26-0 Friday.
The Warriors (8-2) must now wait to see if they have won a berth for the Division III state playoffs.
Hinton, who scored on touchdown runs of 8 and 5 yards, carried the ball 32 times for 193 yards. He now has 1,313 yards for the season.
Quarterback Nathan Greenawalt connected on 9-of-12 passes for 144 yards, which included touchdown throws to Drew Romigh for 24 yards and to Robert Stull for 21.
The Quakers (1-9) were limited to 30 yards rushing and 10 yards passing.
Marlington 14, Canfield 9: ALLIANCE -- Marlington built a 14-0 lead and held on against the Cardinals (6-4).
Canfield was unable to sustain an offense, although it managed to accumulate 232 total yards, 101 of it on the ground.
The Cardinals got on the scoreboard with 2:21 remaining in the game on a safety when Marlington's punter bolted out of the end zone. Junior wide receiver Alex Axelson tallied Canfield's only touchdown at 1:36 when he caught a pass form Leo Sorice and ran 57 yards.
Canfield got 131 yards in the air with Sorice, a junior quarterback, completing 7-of-19 passes. He also threw two drive-killing interceptions.
Junior halfback Tim Dewberry had nine carries for 44 yards for Canfield.
Marlington, which used long drives to aid its ball control, finished the regular season 7-3.
