Honors and appointment
WARREN -- The Right Rev. Monsignor Sylvester Hladky, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church, recently celebrated his 92nd birthday and his 65th year in the priesthood.
He has spent 55 years at Sts. Peter and Paul. He was honored at liturgies, by schoolchildren, and at a dinner by the Benedictine Sisters at Queen of Heaven Monastery. He was elevated to Rev. Monsignor by Pope John XXIII in 1965, and to Right Rev. Monsignor in 1975.
The Very Rev. Richard J. Whetstone has been assigned to church as priest-in-residence to assist with the ministries. The Warren native is a 1961 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, a 1976 graduate of Youngstown State University, and was ordained a Byzantine Catholic priest in 1983. Father Whetstone obtained his master's degree in church law from the Gregorian University's Orientale in Rome in 1987. Most recently, he has served at churches in Pennsylvania and posts in the archdiocese in Pittsburgh.
Pastor remembered
WARREN -- The annual "Rev. Louis Coleman Day" remembrance celebration will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Coleman Chapel. The Rev. Mr. Coleman was born in 1906, in Mount Sterling, Ala., and died in 1996. In 1943, he moved to Cleveland and became an active member of the Lane Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He lived in Warren for 36 years and founded Calvary CME Church, where he was assigned for 25 years. When he retired in 1982, the name of the church was changed to Coleman Chapel.
75th anniversary
BOARDMAN -- St. Charles Borromeo Parish will celebrate its 75th anniversary Nov. 4. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, will celebrate Mass at 4 p.m. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony's. The church's music ministry has produced a recording for the anniversary, "Celebrate." Call the church for details.
81st anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mount Zion Baptist Church will celebrate its 81st anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday. Pastor Mildred Rutledge and the congregation from Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church of Steubenville will be guests.
Seminar for believers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church will present a seminar on "That the World May Believe" from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10.
The seminar is designed to encourage and equip people in their relationships with fellow believers. It will feature author and Bible teacher Tom Kraeuter. For information on costs, call (330) 792-3897.
Holiday support
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tabernacle Baptist Church's Christian education ministry will sponsor a seminar "Help for the Holidays" at 1 p.m. Nov. 3. The program is designed to provide support and comfort during the holidays to those who have suffered a loss. Call (330) 747-9624.
Annual banquet
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Lost Then Found Ministries will have its annual praise banquet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Italian American Veterans Catering Center. The guest speaker is Jeffrey Chann of Hubbard, who works for GE Corporation in Cleveland. The evening will include a musical patriotic salute by Top Hat Productions. YOUNGSTOWN -- The senior ushers of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate their annual day at 4 p.m. Sunday. Laurel Smith of Antioch Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.

NEW CASTLE -- Calvary Temple will have a costume party when its Club Fusion meets for those in grade seven through college from 8 to 11 p.m. today.

YOUNGSTOWN -- A "Miracle Healing Deliverance Service" is set for 5 p.m. Nov. 4 at Miracle Temple Revival Center. The service will occur the first Sunday of each month.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church will observe its women's day 2001 at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The speaker will be Minister Zina McKinney of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church.
Spiritual perspectives
GREENVILLE -- The Farm will present spiritual programs during its High Tea & amp; Talk program. On Sunday, the Rev. Hydie R. Houston will discuss labyrinths. YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will present "A Musical Celebration" at 5 p.m. Nov. 3 featuring area musical ministries.
Latin and rap music
YOUNGSTOWN -- A free concert will be at Spanish Evangelical Church (the former Roosevelt School) at 6 p.m. Sunday. It will feature the group "Uncion Tropical," made up of former members of Grupomania, and the rap group Son'd Out from Cleveland.
