MAHONING COUNTY Canfield, Austintown police make arrests in drug cases
CANFIELD -- Police in Canfield and Austintown each have recently made arrests for drug-related crimes.
In Canfield, police arrested a woman, 19, of Lockwood Boulevard, Boardman, and a man, 18, of Cool Road, Canfield, after a traffic stop at 1:34 this morning on East Main Street. The car was stopped when police noticed it was traveling slowly with an interior light on.
Police said they noticed the smell of marijuana in the car and said both the woman and the man admitted they were getting high. The man gave police a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana that had been concealed in his shoe.
Police also found three plastic bags containing suspected marijuana in the center console of the car. Two pipes containing suspected marijuana residue also were found in the car.
Reports note that a song about "getting high with your friends" was playing on the car stereo when the car was searched.
Both were arrested and charged with drug abuse. The woman was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Austintown case: In Austintown, a 21-year-old Westchester Drive woman was charged by police with possession of drug paraphernalia after a car accident in which she was the driver at 12:12 a.m. this morning on Willowcrest Drive. Police arrested her when they determined she was intoxicated. Additional details were not immediately available.
Two pipes containing suspected marijuana residue were found in the woman's bag. Police also found bottles of the prescription drugs Clonazepam and Zanaflex in the woman's bag. Neither drug was prescribed to the woman.
Austintown police also arrested a 19-year-old Woodhurst Drive man after a pipe with suspected marijuana residue was found under the seat of his car. A drug-sniffing dog found the pipe when searching the car after a traffic stop at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Woodhurst Drive, police said.
