SHARON, Pa. -- Police said they have a suspect in the shooting death of a Meek Street man, but no one was in custody as of this morning.
Edward Boles, 38, died of a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to J. Bradley McGonigle III, Mercer County coroner.
He ruled the death a homicide.
Police Chief Raymond Greene said Boles was shot early Saturday during an argument at an apartment at 145 N. Water Ave.
Details: Police were called to the scene at 3:43 a.m. to investigate some type of break-in, but investigating officers found there had been a confrontation between two groups of people in the first-floor apartment at that address.
Greene said Boles and another person went to the apartment and got into an argument with one of four people there.
He didn't reveal the nature of the argument, nor would he say if Boles was shot in the apartment or outside.
Police found him about two blocks away near the Ellsworth Street-Water Avenue intersection. He had been shot in the lower left side and was still alive, but Greene wouldn't say if he was still conscious.
Boles was taken to Sharon Regional Health System but died at 7:29 a.m. during emergency surgery, Greene said.
All of the people in the apartment at the time of the confrontation have been identified and initial interviews have been completed, Greene said.
Police have a suspect and charges are expected to be filed soon, he said.
Police recovered a .32-caliber automatic handgun used in the shooting, but Greene wouldn't reveal where it was found or who owns it.
