Police arrest suspect in theft of newspaper vending boxes



COITSVILLE -- John J. Lysowski, who is suspected of taking newspaper boxes from several jurisdictions. was arrested Saturday on state Route 616, south of Orrin Road, by township police.
Officers spotted a truck that matched a description of the alleged thief's, Assistant Police Chief Allan P. Morris said.
Lysowski, 35, of Blue Ridge Drive, Poland, was charged with the theft of newspaper boxes from Roni's Restaurant on McCartney Road and served with two felony theft warrants issued by Youngstown. In a written statement, Lysowski admitted taking newspaper boxes for the cash inside. He said he just looked for the orange Vindicator boxes and took whatever else was attached.
The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department and police in Boardman and Hubbard want Lysowski for questioning, Morris said.
Lysowski was free on bond from Mahoning County Court in Boardman on two counts of felony theft, one count of misdemeanor theft and one count of criminal trespassing.
Missing machines: On Friday, Boardman police received a report that two Vindicator vending machines and one Cleveland Plain Dealer machine, all valued at $1,500, were taken Friday from the sidewalk outside the Italian Baking Co. on Market St.
Boardman Police Lt. Jack Nicholas could not be reached for comment on whether charges had been filed in that theft.
