PREP VOLLEYBALL Spartans survive test by Falls
Top-seeded Fitch had no problem against Akron Firestone.
STOW -- Boardman defeated Cuyahoga Falls, 15-4, 9-15, 16-14 in the Division I sectional volleyball tournament Saturday.
Senior middle hitter Mara Capraruolo collected six points, nine kills and seven blocks to lead the second-seeded Spartans (20-3).
Jen Feret added five points, four kills and eight digs while Jen Hlebovy tacked on four kills and Whitney Tressel had seven points and 18 assists.
Cuyahoga Falls is now 13-10.
Boardman will meet third-seeded Hudson Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the district semifinal.
Fitch 15-15, Akron Firestone 1-0: Megan Casey had 10 points and four aces to lead the top-seeded Falcons.
Jessica Dicarlo also collected seven points, a kill and two aces while Ashlee Lemke was in with five points, one kill and two aces for the Falcons (20-3).
Firestone is 6-18.
Fitch will meet the Barberton-Kent Roosevelt winner Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in a district semifinal.
Division IV: LISBON -- Windham, Jackson-Milton, Southern and Columbiana earned spots for Tuesday's Division IV district semifinals at Lisbon High School.
Tabith Pennington scored nine points, with two aces for top seeded Windham (22-1) as it eliminated Western Reserve (8-13) 15-0, 15-6.
Stephanie Rogenski scored 14 points, while Erica Stramm had 25 sets and 15 assists as Jackson-Milton (14-9) sidelined Sebring (6-13) 15-10, 15-8.
The Bluejays' Desra Tomaino had eight kills and Lea Fenton five blocks. Megan Drennan led the Trojans with four points, two aces, two blocks and two kills.
Lacey Dangelo scored nine points, with three aces, 18 sets and six assists as Southern (15-5) eliminated Lordstown (8-13) 15-6, 15-5.
The Indians' Deanna Sell added two points, 20 sets and six assists. The Red Devils were led by Sarah Russ with three points and two aces. Jessica Blank had 18 setgs.
Amanda Allen scored nine points, with 20 assists, 32 sets and two aces as Columbiana (9-12) turned back fourth-seeded Bristol (13-8) 15-5, 15-11.
The Clippers' Kelly Vitko added eight points, three aces, six kills and three blocks. Jamie Maraczi led Bristol with seven points and two digs. Ashley Rasmussen had three points and four assists.
Tuesday at Lisbon Windhan faces Jackson-Milton at 6:30 p.m. and Southern meets Columbiana at 7:30.
