Niles runners finish 15th



PERRY -- The Niles High girls cross country team finished 15th with 452 points in the Division II district meet Saturday at the Perry outdoor YMCA.
Perry won team laurels with 34 points. Beaumont placed second with 83.
Freshman Andrea Fickenscher of Perry won the 5000 run in 19:46. Her sister, senior Johanna, placed fourth (20:44).
JoAnne Johnson, a senior, was 68th (24:06).
The top five teams and 15 individuals advance to Boardman next Saturday.
Div. I: Cleveland Heights won with 70 points and Mentor was second with 72.
Solon took first place in the Div. I boys run with 54 points. Mentor was second with 62, and Niles didn't score because it didn't have a full team.
Michale Sawicki of Lakeside won the run (16:42) and Mike Watson of Euclid was second (16:56). Chris O'Meara of Niles was 40th (18:45) and teammate Joe Gillespie was 41st (18:45).
