NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Lawrence County will conduct a parents-in-education meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Shenango High School Library. Topics will include special education, accommodations for pupils with disabilities, instructional support, individualized education and speech and language programs.
Flu shots available
GREENFORD -- Flu shots will be available from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Green Township Community and Administration Building for people 50 years of age and older. Medicare cards will be honored. The cost will be $11 for all others. Register by calling (330) 533-5352.
Kids' immunizations
GIRARD -- A well-child immunization clinic will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the city health department offices in the city building. The clinic is free to children residing in Girard, and Dr. James J. Enyeart, health commissioner, will conduct the examinations. A parent or guardian must accompany children under age 18 and must bring a copy of the child's immunization record. Parents must register their children before the clinic by calling the health department at (330) 545-6048 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Mobile Medical Clinic
YOUNGSTOWN -- St. Elizabeth's Mobile Medical Clinic will be at The Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29. The mobile clinic provides free care to people without medical coverage. A family physician is on board. Services provided include checkups, examination of the ill, cancer and blood pressure screenings, health information and referrals. People with medical coverage must bring their medical cards or proof of medical insurance. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No appointment is necessary.
Cancer and appearance
CANFIELD -- The American Cancer Society will conduct a free "Look Good, Feel Better" program from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 29 in its offices at 525 N. Broad St. for women concerned about the effect cancer treatment may have on their appearance and self-esteem. The program offers advice for women facing hair loss and covers skin, hair and nail care, and the effective use of wigs, scarves, turbans and hats. Instruction is provided by a licensed cosmetologist donating her time. All items used in the class are donated to each participant. Yoga for beginners
WARREN -- St. Joseph Health Center will offer a seven-session beginning yoga class from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. or 7 to 8:15 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 29-Dec. 10, in the hospital's atrium. The class, featuring instruction in breathing and relaxation techniques, will be taught by Dawn Perhacs of the Kripalu Yoga and Health Center, Lenox, Mass., a certified instructor who has practiced yoga for 27 years and has 20 years of teaching experience. The program is for adults only and the cost is $57. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket and a small pillow to class.
