Biztravel.com goesout of business
Biztravel.com, a leading booking and advice site for business travelers, appears to be another casualty of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.
The Philadelphia-based company halted operations Sept. 21, citing an increasingly challenging climate for business travel sales.
"Biztravel has been unable to overcome the challenges of the economic downturn, the ever-increasing economic pressures of the travel industry, and ultimately the further-reduced demand for travel resulting from the tragedy of September 11, 2001," said Melissa Debach, editor of Biztravel.com, in a farewell note posted on the site.
Biztravel was partially owned by Rosenbluth International, a corporate travel agency.
American Airlines, TWAto restrict meal service
American Airlines and its subsidiary TWA said they would end most meal service by Nov. 1 as a cost-saving measure.
American said it would no longer serve meals in the main cabin of domestic flights, except those on nonstop transcontinental routes. In first class, meal service will be discontinued on domestic flights of two hours and under, but will still be offered on flights longer than two hours.
A smaller airline, America West, announced earlier that it would temporarily end meal service to reduce the amount of preparation time on the ground and allow it to more closely adhere to its schedule. It said meal service would resume once schedules had stabilized.
