Springfield Local runs all over W. Reserve



Lowellville and Jackson-Milton recorded wins in two other ICL games.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Dan Zitkovic ran 17 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns Friday to lead Springfield Local (5-4, 5-1) to a 63-38 win over Western Reserve in the Inter-County League.
The Tigers remain a game behind first-place South Range.
Zitkovic has 1,180 rushing yards this year.
Springfield quarterback Pat Brich hit on 11-of-20 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns while Jim McLaughlin rushed four times for 63 yards.
Ryan Jones of the Tigers came up with 254 total yards including a 79-yard punt return, a 64-yard interception return and two touchdown aerials of 3 and 20 yards.
John McDougal rushed 15 times for 74 yards and Cliff James had 19 runs for 72 yards for the Blue Devils (1-8, 0-6). Chris Mountain of Western Reserve had four catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns and a 77-yard kickoff return.
Blue Devils quarterback Jake Zatchok hit on 10-of-30 passes for 184 yards.
Lowellville 26, Mineral Ridge 0: LOWELLVILLE -- Andy Peterson rushed for 151 yards on 15 carries to lead the Rockets (6-3, 4-2).
Mike Palumbo gained 143 yards on the ground, including a 26-yard touchdown for Lowellville, which was listed eighth in this week's Division I Region 21 playoff ratings.
Autumn Axel scored touchdowns on 5- and 1-yard runs as the Rockets rushed for 389 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Chris Ault completed 11-of-18 passes for 158 yards for the Rams (2-7, 2-4).
Jackson-Milton 26, Mathews 6: NORTH JACKSON -- Sophomore quarterback Zack Nicholas scored three touchdowns running and one by interception as Jackson-Milton won for the second time this season.
Nicholas completed nine of 20 passes for 154 yards, but netted just one yard on the ground after several sacks.
Nicholas' top target was junior wingback Lee Keck, who had seven catches for 137 yards.
Senior tailback Dan Hallas was J-M's leading rusher with 104 yards on 21 carries. Nicholas' interception from his outside linebacker position was returned 50 yards.
The Bluejays (2-7, 2-4) totaled 309 yards, while Mathews had 68.
Jackson-Milton also owns a victory over Western Reserve.
Adam Hughes scored for Mathews (2-7, 1-5) on a 90-yard kickoff return.
