CROSS COUNTRY United, Lisbon advance



The top five teams will meet for Boardman's regional competition.
CANTON -- The United and Lisbon High girls cross country teams have advanced to next week's Division III regional cross country meet.
Lisbon's Todd McDevitt and Leetonia's Danny Simpson and Justin Holiday earned individual berths for the boys 5000 run.
Lisbon's Katrina Brickner won the girls race in 20 minutes, 8.04 seconds and her sister Lindsay (21:29.94) finished eighth at the Malone College district meet Friday.
Melissa Dipanfilo of Leetonia (21:37.79) placed 11th and Emmy Prosko of United (21:47.50) was 13th.
McDevitt, who placed eighth a year ago, finished second this time in 17 minutes, 50.44 seconds. Simpson (17:59.20) came in sixth and Holiday (18:21.10) was 14th.
Advancing teams: The top five teams along with the 15 fastest times advanced to next week's Boardman regional meet.
In the boys Div. I competition, Tom Albani of Boardman placed second for the second straight year to earn a regional berth.
Glen Collins of North Canton Hoover, who was fifth in the 5,000 run a year ago, took first place in 16 minutes, 21.33 seconds; and Albani was close behind in 16:34.16.
Sophomore Brittany Durkin of Boardman (20:25.40) placed ninth in girls Div. I and Kristen Piersante of Canfield (20:26.67) was 10th.
