26 student athlete scholars nominated for award
YOUNGSTOWN -- Twenty-six area high school senior student athletes have been nominated by their schools for the Wendy's High School Heisman Program.
High schools are permitted a male and female student athletes who excel in the classroom and find time to give back to the community.
This year, 12,000 students across the U.S. have been nominated.
Wendy's will select students for each state's finalist category. The state winners will compete against each other for a national winner.
The 12 national finalists will be flown to New York City on Dec. 6 to participate in college football's Heisman Trophy ceremonies.
Area nominees from Ohio schools are: Kimberly Brunie, Sebring; Jeffrey Constantine, Jackson-Milton; Emily Freudenrich, Lordstown; Ryan Freudenrich, Lordstown; Cortney Hoch, Hubbard; Joanne Johnson, Niles; Thomas Kimmel, Canfield; Jennifer Kreps, Springfield; Kevin Libeg, Hubbard; David Mealy, Springfield; Julie Nemergut; South Range; Jonathan Sliwinski, Niles; Desra Tomaino, Jackson-Milton; Rachael Ullinskey, Southington; Meghan Wood; Springfield; and Brian Zorman, Boardman.
Pennsylvania nominees are: Jeremy Baker, West Middlesex; Anna Davis; Lakeview; Jessica Dodson, Commodore Perry; Jerry Drew, Lakeview; Colleen Gottuso, Hickory; Jessica Kerlik, Greenville; Edward Likovich, Hickory; Joshua Sindlinger, Commodore Perry; Thomas Wheeler, Greenville; and Kristine Wingard, West Middlesex.
