CROSS COUNTRY District weekend



Five teams, plus those individuals not on a qualifying team who finish in the top 15 positions, advance to the regional meet at Boardman High School on Oct. 25.
DIVISION I
Where: Malone College, CantonWhen: Today at 1:30 p.m. (girls), 2:30 p.m. (boys)Area schools (5): Fitch, Boardman, Canfield, Howland, Harding. Also competing (12): Canton McKinley, GlenOak, Green (Greensburg), North Canton Hoover, Massillon Jackson, Akron Kenmore, Uniontown Lake, Massillon Perry, Canton Timken, Wadsworth, Massillon Washington, Wooster.Who to watch: Boardman senior Tom Albani finished second to Canton McKinley's Jaime Stahler (now graduated) at last year's district race at Malone College and should be this year's favorite.Boardman ran at the Malone Invitational on Sept. 22. Albani took second with a time of 16:22 at that meet to lead Boardman to a 10th place finish behind Fitch. Look for Massillon Perry, Hoover, and Massillon Jackson to make a run at the team title. Jackson's girls will likely take the girls race. Canfield's Kristen Piersante, Fitch's Elaine Reedy and Kaitlin Kempe and Boardman's Brittany Durkin could advance to regionals.

DIVISION II
Where: Trumbull County FairgroundsWhen: Saturday at 1 p.m. (girls), 2:20 p.m. (boys)Area schools (13): Brookfield, Mooney, Champion, East Palestine, Girard, Lakeview, Liberty, Poland, Salem, Southeast, Struthers, Ursuline, West Branch.Also competing (4): Beachwood, Streetsboro, St. Vincent-St. Mary, Wickliffe.Who to watch: Mooney won both the boys and girls team titles last year and return their top two runners, Val Zajac and Joe Taylor. The Cardinals could repeat, although St. Vincent, St. Mary is favored in the boys race. Taylor won districts last year and ran the course at last week's Sim Earich. Girard won the boys state title in Division III last year. West Branch's Lisa Davies and Megan Cingcade will liyokely advance.
DIVISION III
Where: Trumbull County FairgroundsWhen: Today at 1:40 p.m. (girls), 3 p.m. (boys)Area schools (13): Badger, Bristol, Southington, Jackson-Milton, JFK, LaBrae, Lordstown, Maplewood, McDonald, Mineral Ridge, South Range, Springfield, Western Reserve.Also competing (5): Garfield (Garrettsville), Grand Valley, Pymatuning Valley, Rootstown, St. John & amp; Paul.Who to watch: Maplewood and McDonald should go 1-2 in the boys race. Springfield's David Mealy should advance. South Range and LaBrae will be strong. South Range and McDonald could advance in the girls race. McDonald's Jen and Jess Wenhold, South Range's Julie Nemergut are among the top runners.
Where: Malone CollegeWhen: Today at 1 p.m. (girls), 2 p.m. (boys)Area schools (5): Columbiana, Leetonia, Lisbon, Southern, United.Also competing (15): Black River, Dalton, East Canton, Chippewa, Heritage Christian, Hillsdale, Mapleton, Mogadore, Norwayne, Northwestern, St. Thomas Aquinas, Smithville, Tuslaw, Waterloo.Who to watch: Lisbon's Todd McDevitt, Terry Carman, Gregg Porter and Brad Carman make the Blue Devils a serious threat to win title. Leetonia's Dan Simpson is having a good season. Katrina and Lindsay Brickner lead Lisbon's girls team.
