Warning against hoaxes
BROOKFIELD -- Pupils at the middle and high schools were warned Wednesday about the penalties for an anthrax hoax.
Police Chief Daniel Faustino said a flourlike substance was found Wednesday morning in the high school parking lot.
"From everything we can find, it's a hoax," the chief said.
Faustino said the substance was found shortly before 8:30 a.m. by the assistant high school principal.
During assemblies at the two schools, pupils were told about the penalties for creating a false alarm.
They were also told, Faustino said, about the cost of emergency calls and how a false alarm can divert equipment from a real emergency.
