Flat Liners win4-on-4 tourney
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Division I Flat Liners of Youngstown defeated Youngstown Pride 41-13 to capture the 8th Let-It-Fly 4-on-4 Football Tournament at St. Anne's School and Church.
The Flat Liners' Erick Sallaz, Bobby Morton, Ben Hannis, John Glover, Ryan Puskas and Josh Blanchard will compete in the Go Deep 4-on-4 Fall Championship Nov. 24-25 in Canton.
The Truth of Canfield defeated the Bandits 34-27 to take first place in the Div. II 14-15 year old bracket, The Corruptors finished third.
In Div. III 12-13, The Twisters defeated the A-town Bawlers 36-12 for first place. Mike Panamarozuk, Derek Sallaz, Ben Hannis, James Paris, Jeff Meese, Matt Lobaugh and Scott Ratowski were chosen for the Pizza Hut all tournament team and received awards.
Dattilio first team
BELOIT -- Alan Dattilio, a junior at West Branch High, was named to the first team on the Northeastern Buckeye Conference golf squad.
He recently won the district tournament, shooting 74. He was fifth in the sectional tournament with 78.
Kevin Huber namedby Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore quarterback-wide receiver Kevin Huber of Newton Falls was named Westminster College Offensive Titan of the week.
Huber made his first reception as a Titan, a 12-yard catch in the first half. He entered the contest at quarterback for one play in the third quarter and scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 2-yard run as the Titans defeated Thiel 15-10.
Hole-in-one
LAKE MILTON -- Jim Beatty of Canfield scored a hole-in-one at Lakeside Golf Course.
Beatty aced the par-3, 185-yard No. 3 hole, using a 4-iron. His shot was witnessed by Rob Sylvester, Jim Byrd and Pat Murphy.
Basketball dinner
MIDLAND, Pa. -- Midland Basketball Classic will sponsor a kickoff dinner Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony's Hall.
Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for students, and may be reserved by calling (724) 643-1450.

Blue Jackets signBendera to contract
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Blue Jackets signed goaltender Shane Bendera to a multiyear contract on Wednesday.
Bendera, 19, was the team's sixth pick (169th overall) in the 2000 NHL entry draft and has spent the last three seasons playing major junior hockey with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.
This season Bendera is 5-1-1 with a 1.70 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage.
Cavs cruise
CLEVELAND -- Wesley Person scored 31 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers past the Boston Celtics 110-95 Wednesday night.
Person made 11-of-17 shots from the field, going 6-of-9 from 3-point range, as Cleveland earned its first win under new coach John Lucas in four exhibition games.
Paul Pierce scored 28 points to lead Boston, while Eric Williams added 23 points -- 12 free throws.
Lamond Murray had 20 points, Chris Mihm 18 and Andre Miller 14 points and 12 assists for Cleveland. Cavaliers center Michael Doleac added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Royals sign catcher
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Catcher Brent Mayne agreed to a two-year contract with Kansas City. The deal also includes a team option for the 2004 season. Mayne rejoined the Royals last June in a trade with Colorado. He hit .285 with two home runs and 20 RBIs.
Snow needs surgery
PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia 76ers guard Eric Snow needs surgery to repair his broken left thumb.
Doctors said they will wait for swelling in the thumb to subside before they operate. A statement released by the team said there is no timetable for Snow's return.
Snow, coming off major ankle surgery, was injured Tuesday night during an exhibition game at San Antonio.
Lions' Moore outfor season
PONTIAC, Mich. -- Detroit Lions wide receiver Herman Moore will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a muscle in his hip.
Moore, who is in his 11th season, injured his hip in the second quarter of Detroit's 31-26 loss at Minnesota on Sunday.

Agassi upset
STUTTGART, Germany -- Second-seeded Andre Agassi lost a chance to reclaim the No. 1 ranking this week when he was upset by Hicham Arazi 7-6 (4), 7-5 in the second round of the $2.95 million Stuttgart Masters Series.
Ninth-seeded Pete Sampras, trying to win his first title in 15 months, beat Stefan Koubek 6-3, 7-6 (5) to reach the third round.
Capriati moves on
ZURICH, Switzerland -- Jennifer Capriati started her reign as the No. 1 player with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Nadia Petrova in the second round of the $1.185 million Swisscom Challenge.
