ST. LOUIS -- Youngstown State running back P.J. Mays and cornerback Antulio Aroche were named Gateway Conference players of the week following the Penguins' 41-20 victory over Southwest Missouri State.
Mays rushed for 218 yards and three touchdowns and was named offensive player of the week. Aroche was named defensive player of the week for his 11 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

DAYTON -- The Youngstown State women's soccer team lost to Wright State 4-0 on Saturday.
YSU (1-14, 0-4 Horizon League) gave up two goals to Kristin Black.
The Penguins visit Howard University on Tuesday.

Mooney shuts outMaplewood
YOUNGSTOWN -- Katie Vinopal scored three goals as Cardinal Mooney's girls soccer team defeated Maplewood, 3-0, Saturday.
Vinopal has scored eight goals this season. Sara Wright and Molly Blasko each had an assist for Mooney (11-2-2).
McNeil scores 2in JFK win
GENEVA -- Katie Roberts scored with five minutes remaining in the first half, and Sarah McNeil sandwiched two goals around Jen Burin's score in the second half of Warren JFK's 4-0 win over Geneva on Saturday.
Roberts and Alli Hazboun had assists for JFK (12-3-1), while Michelle Rossio had three saves.
McNeil set the school's single-season goals record of 23, beating the 21 set by Erin Chittock in 1998. Roberts broke JFK's single-season record for assists with 12.
Golfers failto qualify
FRESNO, Calif. -- Three area golfers failed to qualify in the United States men's Mid-Amateur tournament Sunday at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club.
Brookfield's John Zebroski shot a two-day total of 148 (77-71), while Poland's John Scarsella had a 156 (81-75) and Jim Perry a 157 (77-80).
Jeff Wilson of Suisun, Calif., shot a second straight 66 Sunday for a three-stroke lead.
Hole-in-one
GARRETTSVILLE -- Joe Bertilacci Jr. of Girard had a hole-in-one on the 165-yard No. 10 hole at Sugarbush Golf Course using a 6-iron. Witnesses to the 27-year-old Bertilacci's first ace were Ed Sproviero, Ron Lesko and Mark Standohar.
