NHL ROUNDUP Saturday's games

Senators 2, Rangers 2
OTTAWA -- Petr Nedved scored with 4:36 left in the third period Saturday night to lift the New York Rangers to a 2-2 tie with the Ottawa Senators. Rangers captain Mark Messier left the game with five minutes to go in the second, shortly after he was checked by Mike Fisher. Messier suffered bruised ribs on the play and did not return. Nedved tied the game with his first goal of the season less than four minutes after Michael York scored his first to break Ottawa goalie Patrick Lalime's shutout bid.
Blues 5, Maple Leafs 2
TORONTO -- Keith Tkachuk and Pavol Demitra each had a goal and an assist, and Doug Weight scored his first goal for St. Louis in the Blues' 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
Sergei Varlamov and Cory Stillman also scored for the Blues, who won for the first time in four games this season. Travis Green and Robert Reichel had goals for the Maple Leafs. The Blues, who reloaded over the summer, traded starting goalie Roman Turek and let top scorer Pierre Turgeon leave as a free agent, got off to a poor start this season.
Hurricanes 5, Thrashers 2
ATLANTA -- Jeff O'Neill scored two goals and added two assists Saturday night as the Carolina Hurricanes continued their domination of Atlanta, beating the Thrashers 5-2 in their home opener.
Sami Kapanen scored the go-ahead goal in the second period for a 3-2 lead. Kapanen's fourth goal of the season -- a 20-foot slap shot -- slipped past Atlanta goalie Milan Hnilica's outstretched left leg and into the net with 4:11 left in the period before a sellout crowd of 18,545.
Canadiens 3, Devils 1
MONTREAL -- Martin Rucinsky and Yanic Perreault scored 20 seconds apart early in the third period to lead the undefeated Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 victory over the winless New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Jeff Hackett (3-0-0) made 23 saves, including a nice one on Petr Sykora with about three minutes to play, as Montreal improved to 4-0-1 -- their best start since opening with a 10-game unbeaten streak in 1981. Andreas Dackell scored into an empty net to seal the win in front of 19,393 at the Molson Centre.
Red Wings 5, Islanders 4, OT
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Steve Yzerman scored the game-winning goal 2:32 into overtime as the Detroit Red Wings ended the New York Islanders' season-opening unbeaten streak with a 5-4 victory in sold-out Nassau Coliseum on Saturday night. Yzerman's second goal of the night came after Detroit's Luc Robitaille tied it at 4 with 9.4 seconds left in regulation. Oleg Kvasha and Alexei Yashin each had two goals and two assists for the Islanders, who opened the season with four road victories.
Flyers 5, Panthers 2
SUNRISE, Fla. -- John LeClair and Ruslan Fedotenko scored 17 seconds apart in the second period, and the Philadelphia Flyers took a season-high 53 shots on goal Saturday night in a 5-2 victory over the Florida Panthers. The Flyers ended a three-game winless streak since beating the Panthers in the season opener. Philadelphia broke the game open with three goals on 21 shots in the second period, which had been their least productive period.
