YOUNGSTOWN -- A 13-year-old Cortland girl died Saturday night in St. Elizabeth Health Center of injuries she suffered when she was struck be a vehicle in Mecca last week.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Southington said Nita K. Oliver of state Route 46 was crossing that road in the 7300 block at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when she was hit.
Carla Phelps, 26, of Cortland was driving north on Route 46 and swerved but was unable to avoid hitting the girl.
The accident is under investigation.
Girard woman killedin head-on collision
COITSVILLE -- A 60-year-old Girard woman died Sunday in a head-on collision with a pickup truck on state Route 616.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canfield said Nellie Fox of Patricia Drive was southbound in a Chevrolet Cavalier about 2:25 p.m. when the northbound GMC pickup truck of Michael O'Dell, 29, of state Route 305, Fowler, slid across the center line into her lane.
O'Dell was uninjured.
The accident is under investigation.
Charged after accident
WARREN -- A 31-year-old Homewood Avenue S.E. man has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence, driving under suspension and driving left of center.
Police say the man was southbound on North Road around 10:47 p.m. Saturday when he crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Steven Pavick, 40, of Bristolville, then careened into another car driven by Jodi A. Macina, 33, of Warren.
Macina was not injured. The driver who's facing charges was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Pavick and his passenger, Marian Pavick, 50, also of Bristolville, were treated at St. Joseph Health Center.
Residents on alert
GIRARD -- Mayor James Melfi today issued an alert to residents that they should be on the lookout for a catlike animal.
The mayor said the unidentified animal has been spotted recently on Patricia Drive and Shannon Road.
The latest sighting was this weekend on Shannon.
If such an animal is spotted, police should be called.
Church seeks tutorsfor local schoolchildren
WARREN -- First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. N.W., is seeking volunteers to help tutor pupils from Roosevelt Elementary School.
The church has adopted the school as part of a citywide adopt-a-school program. Pupils range from kindergarten to fourth grade.

Boardman man diesin motorcycle accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 35-year-old Boardman man died Saturday in a motorcycle accident on Salt Springs Road.
Police said Marco Spade of Charles Street was eastbound near Ameritech Drive around 11 p.m. when the motorcycle went out from under him, skidded across the pavement and struck a curb.
Detective Sgt. Patricia Garcar said witnesses reported seeing Spade speeding and performing tricks with the motorcycle.
He was wearing a helmet.
