Howells celebrate golden jubilee at surprise party



YOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Earl Howell of Youngstown were honored Sept. 28 at a surprise party at The Elm Tree in Struthers in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Arrangements for the festivity were made by the couple's children and their spouses, Karen and James Thompson, Boardman; Linda and Robert Vaughn, Boardman; Diane and David Wagner, Broadview Heights; Craig and Tracy Howell, Tallmadge; Brian and Tanya Howell, Kingsbeach, Calif.; Blake and Susan Howell, Boardman; and Kirk and Darla Howell, Boardman. The couple also have 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Howell and the former Arlene Patton were married Sept. 15, 1951, at St. John Vianny Church in Flint, Mich. He retired in 1980 from the General Motors Fabricating Plant in Lordstown, where he was a supervisor. He served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division in the Philippines during World War II.
His wife was employed at Sears Roebuck and Co. for 25 years prior to retiring in 1997.
The Howells are members of St. Charles Church in Boardman.
