Cleveland Benedictine drops Cardinal Mooney, 23-10



PARMA -- Cardinal Mooney scored the first 10 points of the game but Cleveland Benedictine came up with the final 23 points to pin a 23-10 setback on the Cardinals Saturday at Byers Field.
Ron Stoops of Mooney recovered an early fumble to give the Cardinals the ball, setting up a 9-yard touchdown run by quarterback Anthony King.
Stelio Frangopoulos kicked the conversion and later added a 30-yard field goal to make it 10-0 later in the first quarter.
The Bengals (5-3) then ran off 23 points to put the game away.
Bernard Ford hauled in an 80-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Tyus to narrow the gap to 10-7.
Marcus Slatron had a 1-yard TD run and Sam Koyl kicked a 50-yard field goal to make it 17-10 at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, Benedictine's Aaron Scales intercepted a pass and brought it back for a 21-yard score.
Patsy Malie had 26 carries for 114 yards for Mooney (0-8).
Southington 20, Weirton Madonna 7: WIERTON, W. Va. -- Tim Grim ran 22 times for 137 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Southington.
Southington (4-4) suffered eight turnovers and was penalized 10 times but still held the Blue Dons to just 109 yards of total offense.
Grim brought an interception back 48 yards for a first-quarter touchdown but the Blue Dons tied the game 7-7 with a 25-yard TD pass.
In the fourth quarter Grim scored on a 3-yard run and a 28-yard run to send Madonna to a 5-3 mark.
Kyle Andreatta also had eight carries for 47 yards for the Wildcats.
