Warriors blank Minerva, 48-0



MINERVA -- If a struggling Minerva team expected any sympathy from Northeastern Buckeye Conference foe West Branch, it didn't get it.
The Warriors scored in every quarter and quarterback Josh Scott threw 7-of-11 passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns as West Branch (6-2, 5-1) blanked the Lions 48-0 Friday.
Drew Romigh caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown and Matt Martig had three catches for 47 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors. Tom Hinton had 17 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown.
David Snow led Minerva (2-6, 0-5) with nine carries for 15 yards as the Lions managed just 17 yards rushing and just 53 total yards.
Newark Catholic 44, Campbell Memorial 20: NEWARK -- Newark Catholic scored 35 points in the middle two quarters and handed Campbell Memorial a setback.
Newark Catholic (6-2) is first in the Div. IV, Region 23 listing and is eighth in the Associated Press statewide poll.
The Red Devils (4-4) were led by Albert Holland, who had 15 carries for 70 yards including a 15-yard touchdown, and Mike Harden, who had 11 carries for 69 yards and a 1-yard tally.
Campbell scored first in the game when Ricky Quinn passed 28 yards to Terrell Harris and Quinn added the conversion kick.
Newark Catholic scored the next 21 points before the Harden touchdown. Two more tallies by the winners gave them a 30-14 lead.
St. Thomas Aquinas 23, Beaver Local 8: CANTON -- Joe Bishop kicked a school record 54-yard field goal and led St. Thomas Aquinas past Beaver Local.
Bishop, who also added two extra points, led Aquinas, which rallied from an 8-7 deficit. Rocco Maragan, Kevin Host and Isa Abdul Bahir also scored for the winners.
Jared Williams scored Beaver Local's lone touchdown as its record fell to 4-4 on the year. Aquinas is now 7-1.
