TAC Helle hauls in 10th TD to break Girard record

GIRARD -- Girard High junior receiver Dustin Helle set a school record for touchdown receptions in a season as the Indians rolled over LaBrae 47-0 in the Trumbull Athletic Conference Friday.
Helle caught three passes for 223 yards, including touchdown aerials of 65, 81 and 77 yards, all thrown by Randy Mason.
Helle now has 10 touchdown catches this year to break the Girard record of nine set by Ray Beach in 1952.
Mason completed 6-of-13 passes for 292 yards and the three scores for the Indians (7-1, 5-0), who were sixth in the Div. IV, Region 13 of the computer ratings this week.
Jon Hepfner paced the Girard ground game with 21 carries for 116 yards and touchdowns of 15 and 9 yards.
Girard had 467 total yards, with 175 coming on the ground.
The Vikings are 1-7, 0-5.
Newton Falls 27, Liberty 8: NEWTON FALLS -- Liberty fumbled the opening kickoff and Ryan Clonch of the Tigers recovered at the Leopards' 36-yard line.
A couple of plays later, Darrin Brounce caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Nemet as the Tigers took the lead for keeps.
Marty Hutchinson of Newton Falls (5-3, 3-2) rushed for 156 yards on 19 carries and scored on a 6-yard run.
Nemet completed 6-of-10 passes for 92 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown pass to Eric Lance. Nemet also scored on a 50-yard run.
Jaris Williams of Liberty (4-4, 3-2) rushed for 138 yards on 19 carries, including a 65-yard score.
Lakeview 28, Brookfield 14: CORTLAND -- Pete Brister carried 26 times for 237 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lakeview over Brookfield.
Brister scored on runs of 68, 36 and 43 yards, respectively as the Bulldogs (2-6, 2-3 TAC) totaled 276 yards on the ground.
Lakeview quarterback Kevin Rigby completed 7-of-10 passes for 99 yards and one touchdown. The Bulldogs' defense came up with three interceptions.
Brookfield (1-7, 1-4) was led by Jeremy Matthews with 79 yards rushing and Julian Hayes with 75 yards and two touchdowns.
