South Range runs wild over Mustangs, 66-0



VIENNA -- Seven players scored touchdowns as South Range used a balanced attack to blank Mathews 66-0 in the Inter-County League Friday.
Justin Coburn and Brad Vizi recovered fumbles in the end zone to give the Raiders (8-0, 5-0) an early 14-0 lead.
John Styer, who kicked seven conversions, added a 27-yard field goal for a 17-0 lead entering the second session.
Jeff Johnston, Ryan Maxwell, Jason King and Vizi scored in the second quarter to make it 45-0 at the break.
Brian Novak led the South Range ground game with one carry for a 55-yard touchdown, while Jed Chisman added four carries for 51 yards, including an 11-yard tally.
Jim Sanders led the Raider passing attack with eight completions in 11 tries for 142 yards.
Mathews is 2-6, 1-4.
South Range is ranked eighth in the state in the Associated Press poll and is third in the computer.
McDonald 41, Western Reserve 14: MCDONALD -- Jeff Ashton rushed for 168 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead McDonald to an easy win over Western Reserve.
The Blue Devils improved to 5-3, 4-1 as they jumped out to a 34-0 lead and then coasted past Reserve, now 1-7, 0-5.
Ashton scored on touchdown runs of 10 and 1 yards and sparked the McDonald offense, which totaled 488 yards, including 415 on the ground.
Greg Gustovch added an 81-yard touchdown run for the winners and Matt Vukovic had a 62-yard scamper for a score.
Reserve's touchdowns came on a 72-yard run by Cliff James, who finished with 112 yards rushing, and a 4-yard run by Vince Bareone.
