CANFIELD -- A Jubilee celebration liturgy will be at noon Oct. 21 at the Ursuline Motherhouse Chapel honoring Sister Kathleen McCarragher on her 25th anniversary. Sister Kathleen is the Motherhouse administrator, and director of religious education at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Conception Parishes in Youngstown. She's a 1980 graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in special education and she received her master's degree in 1995 from Boston College.
Woman to be ordained
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Sylvia L. Jennings will be installed at 11 a.m. Sunday at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was ordained Sept. 30. She said she is the first woman ordained in the church in its 52-year history. She's currently the church's associate minister and a receptionist and case manager for Mahoning County Chemical Dependency Inc. A grandfather, an uncle and a brother have been Baptist ministers. She started Reach Beyond the Break Ministries. She will give the message, "Enemies in the Camp," that includes the current troubles in the world between Christians and Muslim extremists.
Eastern seminar
BOARDMAN -- The Society of Saint John Chrysostom Catholic/Orthodox dialogue with the Christian Formation Series of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown's Office of Religious Education will sponsor a seminar Nov. 10 titled, "Who are Eastern Christians?" The seminar will give overviews of the Byzantine Catholic, Maronite Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Coptic Orthodox churches. Presenters will discuss the churches' historical perspectives and contrasts in the liturgy, theology, and spirituality. Five credit hours are offered. The program, sponsored by St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A registration fee of $15, covering lunch and handouts, should be made payable to the Society of Saint John Chrysostom and mailed to Vito R. Prayer breakfast
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches will present its Community Interfaith Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 20, at the Maronite Center. The theme "Building One Neighborhood," will feature Hedda Sharapan, associate producer of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." She will speak on living peaceably with our neighbors. The Rayen School Ensemble and area preschoolers will participate. The program will include prayer and buffet breakfast.

Bishop to speak
BOARDMAN -- The Orthodox Christian Mission Center's 2001 Fall Lecture Tour will sponsor His Grace Jeronymos, Bishop of Bukoba, Tanzania. The annual lecture tour that informs American Orthodox about the international Orthodox church is focusing on the Orthodox Church in Tanzania, where more than half of its 35 million people live in poverty. Orthodoxy came to Tanzania in the 1960s. In the past two years, over 5,000 people were baptized and eight churches and one school were built. Bishop Jeronymos is a graduate of the School of Theology, Athens University in Greece. He was ordained a deacon in 1995 and elevated to priesthood in 1996. He will visit St. John the Forerunner Parish on Tuesday. Hierarchical Vespers will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. followed by a lecture and a social hour.
