In Hubbard Township: Gleydura and Bradley

In the race for Hubbard Township trustee, two challengers are seeking to unseat the two incumbents, but neither makes a good, much less a compelling, argument for change.
If they did, we'd be surprised.
Hubbard Township has two experienced, savvy and level-headed incumbents running for re-election.
The candidates: Joseph E. Gleydura, 62, and Howard G. Bradley, 59, have both been trustees since 1991 and are using their experience and improve relations with Hubbard city officials to pave the way for township growth.
Gleydura and Bradley are working hard to form a Joint Economic Development District with the city. JEDDs allow townships and cities to share their resources for the betterment of both.
Specifically the city would be encouraged to extend its utility services into the township without demanding annexation because the agreement would allow the city to collect income taxes on any new jobs created in the district. At the same time, the township and the school district would profit from the increase in property values.
Top prospect: The most immediate result of such an agreement is expected to be a new truck stop North of I-80 that would provide 110 to 130 new jobs and generate about $130,000 in property tax revenue, most of it for the schools.
Against this specific plan for betterment of the township, the challengers offer weak generalities.
Jeffrey Whitaker, 48, says he would work to improve services and would be a "full-time" trustee, while Jon Dowell, 33, has said his priority would be to make himself available to the community. Neither challenger attended an endorsement interview with Vindicator editors.
When Hubbard Township voters go to the polls Nov. 6, they would be wise to re-elect Gleydura and Bradley, who are working to improve the township for years to come. They have The Vindicator's endorsement and they've earned the support of the voters.
