Free self-defense classfor service members
LIBERTY -- The American International Karate Association, 3622 Belmont Ave., is offering a complimentary basic training program in self-defense and unarmed tactics for any man or woman enlisted in a branch of the United States military or its reserve forces. A.E. Vea, president, will instruct the class.
Vea is a veteran of the Korean War and has studied and taught martial arts since 1954. Sessions will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time for all participants. Vea said he is offering the free program in memory of a family member who was killed in Desert Storm. A military identification will be required to register. Middle school efforts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Hayes Middle School staff members, pupils and parents collected donations and sold baked goods and red-white-and-blue pins for the New York relief effort. The school sent a check for $303.50 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
