YOUNGSTOWN Vice squad officers make 5 drug arrests



One man also had three outstanding warrants.
YOUNGSTOWN -- City vice squad officers made five drug arrests and confiscated heroin and methadone Thursday while serving three separate search warrants.
Three arrests were made at a South Forest Avenue home. A 32-year-old resident there who ran from police when they entered around 7:50 p.m. was charged with aggravated heroin drug trafficking and methadone drug abuse after police found three bundles of heroin on a night stand, 15 plastic bags of methadone in a box next to the night stand and 13 bundles of heroin hidden inside a flashlight, police reports say.
Arrested: A 49-year-old resident of Kenwood Drive S.W. was arrested during the search after officers, who had ordered him to the ground, saw him hide something beneath a couch. They found seven used needles and a spoon with residue, according to police reports. He was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments, and $450 was confiscated from his pocket.
Also arrested was a 43-year-old Berkley Avenue woman on a charge of possession of a drug abuse instrument after police found a used needle in her purse, reports show.
A fourth arrest was made at a Campbell Street home, where the resident was found with a used crack pipe and arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Antonio Hawthorne, 31, also was arrested on three outstanding warrants for receiving stolen property, police reports show. He is accused of receiving in July stolen gift certificates, compact discs and a leather-bound day planner that had been taken from a refrigeration company.
A fifth arrest was made when police found a glass crack pipe and marijuana on a 46-year-old Halleck Street woman during a search of her home, police reports show. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana drug abuse.
In other activity, city police arrested a 34-year-old city woman in a Belmont Avenue parking lot after they saw her toss a crack pipe toward the rear of her vehicle during a traffic stop, according to police reports. She faces a drug paraphernalia charge.
