Chorale plans memorial for attack victims

SHARON, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Chorale will present Faure's "Requiem" Sunday in memory of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks against America.
"Requiem," a musical service for the dead, will be performed at 3:30 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St.
The ecumenical service will include remarks by the Rev. Glenn Hink, pastor of First Presbyterian; student Rabbi Margot Crowson of Temple Beth Israel in Sharon; and Iftikhar Chatha, president of the Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown.
The 80-member chorale will be accompanied by a small orchestra, including Ray Ocock on organ, all under the direction of Ed Groves.
"Nothing meets the needs of society and communities as well as good music. It is time to honor the memory of the people involved and grieve their deaths. Many people in our society, as did Faure, believe death is not an end ... that it has a peacefulness," Groves said.
At the conclusion of the requiem, ushers will be at the exits to accept donations to the American Red Cross Liberty Fund, established to help the families of those who died in the attacks. Checks should be made payable to the American Red Cross Liberty Fund.
