Police arrested a 43-year-old city woman on a felonious assault charge about 10 p.m. after she inadvertently stabbed a man who tried to break up a fight between her and a man she was arguing with on West LaClede Avenue on the city's South Side.
The two were arguing over their children, and the woman had pulled out a butcher knife. The injured man suffered cuts to his right hand and forearm.
In another occurrence, a Plum Street man called police to report that his girlfriend had stabbed him with a kitchen knife as he held his 6-month-old son, and then fled. He suffered a 3-inch cut on his left hand.

She is accused of attempting to steal cigars, hair bands and orange juice, valued at $8.36, and of assaulting two employees who attempted to stop her, police said.
A manager told police he tried to detain the woman, but she bit his finger and struck his head with her purse. An employee said she tried to help the manager and was struck in the face by the thief. The woman fled, dropping her purse containing the stolen items and a state identification card.
