Mercer County's fiscal director resigns

MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County Fiscal Director Jeff Swartzbeck, suspended from his job three weeks ago, has submitted a letter of resignation.
The county commissioners were expected to accept the resignation at their meeting today.
Commissioner Brian Shipley said Swartzbeck submitted the letter Wednesday afternoon and gave no reasons for his decision in that document. The commissioners won't comment because it is considered to be a personnel matter, Shipley said.
The commissioners suspended Swartzbeck with pay Sept. 17, but wouldn't say why, nor would they comment on what kind of investigation prompted their action.
Roberta Leonard, assistant fiscal director, has been running the office in his absence.
Swartzbeck, who served as county fiscal director for four years, is also a Mercer borough councilman and is seeking re-election this year.
