Anthrax fear disproved
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fearing anthrax, a 76-year-old Cambridge Avenue woman called city police Wednesday after a white powder fell out of a National Enquirer tabloid newspaper that was mailed to her home.
The woman told police she had received her subscription copy Saturday and, upon opening it, about a teaspoon of white powder fell onto her lap, police reports show. She brushed it onto the floor. After hearing news of anthrax contamination of tabloid newspaper employees in Florida, the woman contacted police.
An officer transported the newspaper to the Youngstown Health Department where health, environmental and disaster services officials were notified. The officials determined that the newspaper did not contain anthrax, according to police reports. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified of the complaint.
