VOLLEYBALL Maplewood ESC champion again in conference
The victory was the 400th for Rockets coach Bill Dorazio.
LEDGEMONT -- Maplewood High volleyball coach Bill Dorazio won his 400th career match and the Rockets won their fifth consecutive East Suburban Conference championship with a 15-6, 15-3 victory over Ledgemont Tuesday.
Toni Darocha had 12 points and 15 assists to lead Maplewood (19-2, 15-0). Krista Finch added six kills, three blocks and Lauren Partridge had five points and three kills.
Dorazio has compiled a 283-64 record over 15 years at Maplewood. He was 117-59 in 10 years at Farmington.
South Range 15-15, Mathews 7-7: NORTH LIMA -- Tracey Toy had eight points, six digs and two kills to lead South Range in an Inter-County League match.
Becky Skowron had eight points, seven assists and Crystal Schuler had three points, three digs and five kills for South Range (16-3, 9-2 ICL).
For Mathews (8-8, 3-8), Tara Parks had 10 digs and one kill, Jaci Bahrey had two digs, three kills and three blocks and Lena Dascenzo had eight points and four assists.
Mineral Ridge 15-15, Springfield 13-2: NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Darina Casado led the Rams (13-6, 8-2 ICL) with 10 points, with three kills, six aces and a block. Tiffany Hack had five points, seven kills, two aces and a block, while Erin Hinks had five points, five kills and two aces.
Meghan Louttit paced the Tigers (17-4, 7-4) with five points and two aces. Brooke Tabaka had two points and four kills, while Lindsay Johnson had three kills and two blocks.
Jackson-Milton 15-15, Western Reserve 7-4: NORTH JACKSON -- Shauna Durig had nine points, one ace, three kills and four blocks to help the Bluejays (12-6, 8-3 ICL).
Also for Jackson-Milton, Desra Tomaino had four points, seven kills, four blocks and Erika Stamm had six points, two aces, 25 assists.
Tiffany Palumbo had four points, Anna Marie Ricciardi three kills and three blocks and Katie Harmon 13 assists for Western Reserve (6-11, 1-9).
Hubbard 15-15, Girard 12-5: GIRARD -- Katy Jo Mroski led the Eagles (20-1, 14-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference) with 14 kills, 12 digs and six blocks. Amy Falhamer had six kills and seven digs, while Nicole Pringle scored 13 points with 10 assists and Traci Hassell had eight assists and five blocks.
For Girard (14-6, 10-4), Stephanie Scarnecchia had six points and five kills, Jamie Baxter had three points and five digs, Tealle Hunkus had 11 kills and five blocks. Beth Hanna added two blocks, Erin Stevens had 13 assists and Katie Vesely had eight digs.
Champion 15-15, LaBrae 12-12: CHAMPION -- Kelly Meyer had six points, two aces and 14 assists to lead Champion (12-5, 9-5 TAC).
Karen Meyer had eight points, Hillary Pegg had 15 kills and a block and Rosie Holmes had 12 assists for Champion. Velda Morrison had 19 digs and Michelle Canatsey had 11 digs.
Amber Dietelbach had seven points and 28 assists, Amber Gordon had seven blocks and 14 kills, and Joy Hartman had 12 digs for LaBrae (8-11).
Lakeview 15-15, Brookfield 8-4: BROOKFIELD -- Shaina Vencel had 10 points, Heidi Kracker had eight kills and four blocks, Whitney Keyser had eight kills, Jenna Boazzo had 14 assists and Megan Taylor had 13 digs for Lakeview (14-5, 11-3 TAC).
For Brookfield (9-9, 8-6), Jessica Zebroski had four points, 11 digs, Jen Ford had four points and 10 digs, Julie Alter had five kills and four blocks, and Regina Deramo had 17 digs.
Lisbon 15-15, Leetonia 6-2: LEETONIA -- Jenna Santini had seven points, Brianne Duko had 31 assists, Jessica Deville had 12 spikes and Jackie Durham had 10 spikes for Leetonia (4-14).
Northwest 15-15, West Branch 4-9: BELOIT -- Jen Griffith had five points and five assists, Jen Weingart had four kills and Taylor Woods had three points for West Branch.
